About the Journal

The Journal of Law (II Stage) of the Knowledge Area of Legal and Social Sciences at UNAN-León is now a digital scientific journal where the research of its academics, as well as that of national and international researchers who are specialists or experts in different branches of Law, is published.

As of 2017, after 40 years, the journal was reactivated after the Knowledge Area ceased publishing its former Journal of Law and Social Sciences (I Stage – 1962-1977), which featured research or studies from its most prominent professors, illustrious jurists, and academics who passed on their valuable knowledge resulting from study, research, and their own academic and professional experience.

For this reason, this project also aims to recover and promote the research vocation of our current faculty, a vocation that is demanded by the nature of our profession, by our University, by the State, and by society.

Initially created in 1812 by the Courts of Cádiz and officially established in 1816, the current UNAN-León was the second university in Central America and the last one founded in the Americas during the final days of Spanish colonial rule.

Doctors Tomás Ruíz, Agustín Ayestas, and Nicolás García Jerez are considered the founders of the University of León, whose initial motto was Sic itur ad astra (this way to the stars), a motto that still appears at the main entrance of the current building of its bicentennial Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences, generally known as the Faculty of Law.

Since its inception, the Knowledge Area of Law at UNAN-León has earned great respect and prestige due to its significant contribution to the progress of Nicaraguan society. Many professionals and leaders have been formed in its classrooms, influencing the development of the country and the Central American region.

Currently, UNAN-León is undergoing a process of self-evaluation and continuous improvement of the main functions that characterize a modern university (teaching, research, and social outreach); and it is precisely in this process that the project of reactivating the Faculty’s Law Journal is inserted, aiming to increase the productivity of high-quality scientific research in the legal field, linking research with undergraduate and graduate teaching, and reaching out to society in the effort to improve the quality of life of Central Americans in general, and Nicaraguans in particular.

Therefore, the Journal of Law of the Knowledge Area of Legal and Social Sciences at UNAN-León seeks to serve as a stimulus and showcase primarily for the scientific and research work of its academics, but it will also be open to legal researchers from other universities and institutions in our country, in Central America, and from other countries who wish to collaborate and enrich our Journal in this, its second stage in digital format.
