Abstract

Depressive symptoms and levels of resilience in people living with HIV are little studied variables, but they generate great interest in psychological research. The present study answers the following research question: How is the level of resilience related to depressive symptoms in patients with HIV/AIDS from the HEODRA infectology clinic, August 2018-March 2018? The study is descriptive of transversal cut , 129 patients between 21 and 50 years participated . The Zung and Conde Self-Applied Scale for the measurement of depression and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale were used. The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, using chi square to compare the variables studied and the analysis was performed through the SPSS program. It was found that 54% of the participants present depressive symptoms, at any of its levels, being more frequent in women (64%), unlike men who obtained a higher frequency in the absence of symptoms (53%). The dimensions of resilience are between high and very high levels: feeling good alone, self-confidence and personal satisfaction, the very high level predominated. In the perseverance dimension, the high level and finally in the equanimity dimension, a moderately high level. It was found that 37% of patients have a high level of resilience. It is highlighted that both sexes presented high levels of resilience, but women obtained a higher percentage.
