Abstract

The kidney's main function is to filter metabolic waste products and excess sodium and water from the blood, as well as facilitating their elimination from the body, regulating blood pressure and the production of red blood cells; however, it loses this capacity when there is CKD (chronic kidney disease). Ignorance about this disease leads many to have a bad practice in their lives whether they suffer from the disease or not. The objective of this study was to identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the inhabitants of the community of ISLA-Chichigalpa, regarding CKD. It was a descriptive cross-sectional investigation conducting a survey of a sample of 198 people; where there is evidence of a somewhat distorted knowledge about the disease and even more so about its treatment, thus leading them to have an unfavorable attitude towards a certain type of treatment and therefore to develop unhealthy behaviors, mainly in terms of treatment , although it is true that more than 60% of those surveyed affirmed that they carry out preventive behaviors.
