Abstract

The purpose of this study is to obtain information on the medicinal plants that have the greatest use and commercialization in the population of the municipality of León. The main objective has been to know the medicinal plants used by the Leonese population in the period of July-December 2005. Given the lack of access to essential medicines at affordable prices and the difficulty in obtaining them, the use of medicinal plants in Nicaragua As in many Central American countries, it has established itself as a viable alternative in health, since it contributes significantly to the solution of health-related problems. Of 93 neighborhoods found in the city of León, twenty were randomly selected, each with a total of twenty dwellings. For each selected dwelling, one person was surveyed to collect information; resulting in a total of 400 people surveyed. Among the 400 surveys, 285 (71%) stated that they use medicinal plants and 115 (29%) responded that they do not use this resource. According to the results obtained, it was found that medicinal plants represent a therapeutic alternative to solve health problems in the city of León.
