Professional Practices, A Contribution to the Improvement of the Curriculum in the Psychology Career of the UNAN - León

Background and objectives. The Professional Practices represent a valuable and important experience in the training of university students. However, there is little documentation on the evaluation of this training area. Taking the curricular re-design as a context, in order to adapt the study plans to the Competency-Based Curriculum Model, the objectives were to analyze the scenarios and learning activities of the Professional Practices (PP) of the Psychology and identify the training needs perceived by students. Methodology. A quantitative-qualitative study was carried out by applying a semi-structured survey to students in the last year of the Psychology degree. Also I knowThey conducted interviews with the authorities and teachers who have been in charge of tutoring and supervision. Results. Concerns related to a weak methodological and organizational structure of this curricular area, a lack of link between theory and practice and a lack of diversity of contexts for carrying out the practices prevailed. Conclusions. Although the PP are seen as an opportunity for the student to develop their skills in real conditions, the current planning of the PP in the Psychology career limits the development of the capacities to act at different levels of contact and in different fields. of the profession.
