Abstract

This study shows how Nicaragua's agricultural production systems contribute to sustainable local development (DLS) during the periods of 1998-2001 and the year 2005. The article is organized in the first section, with a review of the literature on the methodology of the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), the systems approach and the theory of local sustainable development, the second section deals with the type of data used, the third section explains the methodology used, the fourth section is dedicated to the results and the The last section shows the conclusions. In the study we use the DEA methodology, with the Malmquist index to calculate the change in total factor productivity (TFP) during the period studied, this index is integrated into the econometric design of the local sustainable development model (MDLS) to measure the contribution to the DLS. The results of the research show that the forest subsystem and backyard production show a growing trend in the change of TFP. The variables used in the model explain less than 50% of the contribution to the DLS, given their level of significance and their level of contribution. These variables are social and productive and the subsystems that stand out are forestry and yard production.
