Abstract

A descriptive, non-experimental and retrospective study of 14-year-old Nicaraguan adolescents was carried out, with the objective of Characterizing the applicability of the Summary Ricketts Cephalometric Analysis. 24 files were selected, the units of analysis were initial lateral skull X-rays, without prior equipment. The variables were analyzed: age, sex, skeletal classes and cephalometric measurements of the Summary Ricketts analysis. Results: eight factors of the Summarized Ricketts Analysis had a differentiated behavior except for Facial Depth and Convexity. For both sexes the behavior was similar in most factors. The behavior of each value according to the skeletal classes was versatile. The greatest variability was found in the Facial Axis, Mandibular Plane, Lower Facial Height, Interincisal Angle, First Molar to PTV and Lower Lip to Plane E, which indicates that the Analysis proposed by Ricketts is not applicable to these factors according to the dispersion of data in the sample. It is concluded that the behavior of the factors is different from the Analysis proposed by Ricketts in the Nicaraguan population, attributed to the growth and differentiated development of the mestizo ethnic groups.
